Hello! I am Mrs Hilton, Learning Mentor at Bryn, St.Peter's.
What is a Learning Mentor?
My job is to work with children, parents, carers, teachers and other agencies on various issues that may be affecting a childs learning.
I work alongside all school staff to support our pupils and parents/carers.
How can I help?
I may be part of your childs support network at school, helping with:
Every Friday morning, 9am until 10am I hold a coffee morning. Everybody is welcome to join us, babies and toddlers are also welcome! We have a selection of books and toys to keep them entertained. It's a great opportunity for parents and carers to get to know each other, share ideas and make suggestions for our school.
We operate a walking bus from Landgate Estate (Yewdale road shops) an from Bryn Estate (Chantry road shops). If you would like your child to join us you can collect a form from the school entrance or form me. Once we have a signature of consent and Parent/Carer contact, children can use the bus on a daily basis.
The walking bus provides opportunities for children to engage in conversation with their friends on the way to school. We quite often enjoy a sing a long! Children arrive at school safely, on time and feeling positive!
For our pupils safety, they are all provided with a high visibility waistcoat and walk alongside a friend holding a safety rope.
Meeting point times :
Bryn Estate- 8.30am leaving at 8.35am
Landgate Estate - 8.15 leaving at 8.25am
Some of our Y6 pupils volunteer as Peer Mentors during play and lunchtimes. Peer Mentors play with and encourage KS1 children to make good choices. They also support children with making friends. The children look forward to and enjoy having our Peer Mentors present at playtimes.

Our Playzone leaders do a fantastic job! They are some our children from Y5 that are volunteers. They give up some of their lunchtimes to organise games and activities for our KS1 children.
The leaders create a 'zone' in th KS1 playground and lead activities such as skipping, bat and ball games, ring and clapping games.
This helps to keep the children engaged and helps them to have a happy, enjoyable and safe playtime.

READY STEADY COOK!!!
As part of my role as Learning Mentor, I operate afterschool clubs. Cookery Club is held on a Wednesday afterschool. Due to limited places it is by invitation only.
There is no charge for Cookery Club, it runs for four weeks. Children have the opportunity to develop new skills and also increase their independance.
Here are some pictures of pupils enjoying Cookery Club!
100% Attendance Reward Party.
Children that achieved 100% attendance and punctuality during the Autumn term were invited to a party to celebrate their achievement.
