Y3

Hello and Welcome to Year 3 smiley

Weekly routine

Reading

Reading record books are checked every Monday.  Although books are checked on a Monday, children are able to change their reading book once they have finished at any point during the week.

Reading reward system

As part of our new reading reward system we expect that your child will read at least 4 times each week.  Those children that have read 4 times in a week will earn a move on their class chart.  Once the children have moved 4 times in total they will earn their first certificate. For each four moves on the chart they will gain another certificate.

Reading Certificates

  • 1st commended reader
  • 2nd bronze reader
  • 3rd silver reader
  • 4th gold reader
  • 5th platinum reader
  • 6th superstar reader
  • 7th champion reader
  • 8th world class reader
  • 9th ultimate bookworm

If your child does not read/bring their book in to school for 2 weeks consecutively, a note from Mrs Collier will be sent home.

PE/Games

Children in Y3 will have PE/Games lessons on Wednesday's with coaches from Premier Sports and Thursday's with myself. Kits are expected to be in school at all times ready for the lessons.

Homework

Spelling and times table homework will be given out on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.  It is vital that your child spends a little time each night to learn these.

Tuck

Tuck money is to be brought to class on Fridays or Mondays and is to be put into Mrs Rimmer's drop box in a name labelled envelope- £1.75 for milk and toast weekly (£1.15 milk/60p toast).

Water bottles

Children are able to bring bottles of still water to drink throughout the day; it would be greatly appreciated if these could be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Thank you,

Mrs Rimmer and Mrs Eden

Medicine Making - after reading George's Marvellous Medicine and learning about capacity in maths we use our knowledge to make our own medicines. We measured out ingredients, mixed them together and added up the amount.

World Book Day - Thank you for all of the effort!

Maths Work - we have been completing challenges in division and shape.

The eggs have hatched - children used augmented reality to hatch the dragon eggs discovered at school. We then wrote newspaper articles about this amazing event. After that, we will create scrips for a news report to tell everyone the information.

The school cameras managed to catch something quite peculiar over the festive period. What could it be? Why is it here? Where has it come from? Year 3 and 4 are on the hunt!

European Week - Italy

We have made an Italian style nativity scene called a presepe. These were originally introduced by St Francis of Assisi so that people who could not read could still enjoy the story of the birth of Jesus.
