Y4

There's been some strange things happening over the Christmas break, and our Year 3/4 'Spy Cam' has managed to capture something very peculiar...

As you can see, Year 4 fully enjoyed playing part in the Key Stage 2 Christmas production. So, on behalf of all of us here in Year 4, we'd like to wish you a very, very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Our maths lesson had a Christmas twist, today! To continue with our 'Area' topic, we've been trying to create a Christmas tree with an area of 200cm2. Take a look at our fantastic area pictures below.

The Key Stage 2 Christmas party went down a storm with some of our Year 4 children leading the way!

During the build up to Christmas, Year 4 began to look at and write about winter. This culminated in a magical piece of writing, which involved being trapped within a winter scene inside of a snow globe. The children also made some fantastic snow globes to go alongside their stories - just brrrrrrrrrrrr...illiant!

As parts of the world fell silent to remember the sacrifices made by the courageous and brave heroes of conflict, Year 4 - along with the rest of the school - watched and discussed a beautiful animation, which helped to capture the meaning behind our poppies and show how it wasn't just human lives that were affected by those events. The 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month - We Will Remember Them.

A huge well done to Patrick, Sophie and Anna for creating some super pieces of work - all of which are worthy of a place on our 'Treasured Work' display. Well done, guys!

Something is growing wild in our classroom this year! Not to worry, though, Mr Clark, we've got this one under control! Christian Values are important to our school and the children in Year 4 are doing something extra special to show that they're making a difference. Whether it be making the right choices, caring for other people or just generally contributing to the wider ethos of St Peter's - our children know how to lead the way. It's simple - each time a child displays one of our key values, they help our tree to grow. So, hopefully, with a sprinkle of friendship and a 'glug' of compassion, come the end of the year, our classroom will be looking like a jungle! Keep it up, guys!

Our first 'Writing Wizard of the Week' has arrived in Year 4 and everybody would like to congratulate Chloe on her tremendous effort and ideas, which she used to create this fabulous paragraph - keep it up!

Yet another 'Mathematician of the Week' has arrived in Y4! The teachers are very proud to see Aimee showing some fantastic addition skills when using the column method! Well done and keep up the good work!

Hello and Welcome to Year 4 frown

Weekly routine

Reading

Reading record books are checked every Monday morning.  Although books are checked on a Monday, children are able to change their reading book once they have finished at any point during the week.

Reading reward system

As part of our new reading reward system we expect that your child will read at least 4 times each week.  Those children that have read 4 times in a week will earn a move on our 'Pokemon Go' class chart.  Once the children have moved 4 times in total they will earn their first certificate. For each four moves on the chart they will gain another certificate.

Reading Certificates

  • 1st Commended reader
  • 2nd Bronze reader
  • 3rd Silver reader
  • 4th Gold reader
  • 5th Platinum reader
  • 6th Superstar reader
  • 7th Champion reader
  • 8th World class reader
  • 9th Ultimate bookworm

If your child does not read/bring their book in to school for 2 weeks consecutively, a note from Mrs Collier will be sent home.

PE/Games

Children in Y4 will have PE/Games lessons on Wednesday's with coaches from Premier Sports. Kits are expected to be in school at all times ready for the lessons.

Homework

Spelling and times table homework will be given out on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.  It is vital that your child spends a little time each night to learn these.

Tuck

Tuck money is to be brought to class on Fridays or Mondays and handed in to Mr Greaves in a name labelled envelope. Tuck/ Snack cost: £1.75 for milk and toast weekly (£1.15 milk/60p toast).

Water bottles

Children are able to bring bottles of still water to drink throughout the day; it would be greatly appreciated if these could be clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid any confusion.

Thank you,

Mr Greaves, Mrs Pritchard, Mrs Cater and Mrs Mychalczuk
