PSHE and Relationships and Health Education
Statement of Intent
At Bryn St Peter’s CE Primary School, we understand that pupils must be provided with an education that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A key part of this relates to relationships and health education, which must be delivered to every primary-aged pupil. Primary schools also have the option to decide whether pupils are taught sex education. Following consultation with parents we will be delivering lessons of puberty and menstruation to Year 5 and Y6 pupils and age appropriate sex education to Year 6 pupils.
Relationships education focusses on giving pupils the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships, and to build their self-efficacy. Health education focusses on equipping pupils with the knowledge they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing. The Heart Smart programme is the key resource used in the delivery of these skills.
We understand our responsibility to deliver a high-quality, age-appropriate and evidence-based relationships, sex and health curriculum for all our pupils. This policy sets out the framework for our relationships, sex and health curriculum, providing clarity on how it is informed, organised and delivered.
HeartSmart is a resource to enrich our delivery of PSHE. It's aim is to build resilience, strengthen emotional intelligence and develop active empathy in the hearts of our children. Fundamentally it is about loving and accepting ourselves as well as loving and responding to others.

HeartSmart Day - 2020
During HeartSmart Day we reflected on what we had learned during our topic, 'Don't Forget To Let Love In'.
Some of us created mood masks after talking about feelings. We learned how to recognise other people's feelings by reading their faces and their body language.
Christain Values are at the heart of our school and these decorations helped us to share some of the values we think are most important.
Creating pointilism hearts was fun.
