French

French – Curriculum intent

At Bryn St Peter’s C E Primary, learning French is designed to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. 

The children will develop listening skills to support their learning of the spoken language, and build their confidence to speak French with increasing fluency, pronouncing accurately, so they can engage in conversations, ask questions and express their opinion.

Their ability to write in French will develop so that they can describe people, places facts, actions and feelings at varying length, with accurate spelling.  Their growing knowledge of English grammar will support their understanding of French grammar patterns to help to build sentences of their own.

A range of French stories, poems, rhymes will be explored to broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand and develop an appreciation of simple French literature.
