Year 2 week beginning 2nd November

Date: 8th Nov 2020 @ 5:22pm

The children have had great fun this week starting their first unit of computing in Y2, coding.

We have:

  • created a computer program using simple algorithms.
  • used the Timer command, when clicked command and the collision detection command when creating our algorithms
  • tested and debugged some simple programs

Some of the games we have played you can view and have a go at on the purple mash website.  Simply go to: https://www.purplemash.com/sch/bryn-wn4   then use your log in (you’ll find this inside your home learning book) to access the site and view the games assigned in the 2do section.

Purple mash has other educational games that you can access linked to English, Maths, Science, Art and Topic so check it out!

We also managed to squeeze in some firework art work this week too.  The children used their cutting skills to create a stencil, then used coloured chalks to recreate a firework display in the night sky.  Head over to our gallery to view, you won’t be disappointed!

This week, our superstar was Ruby C.  She has displayed excellent computing skills this week, coding her own game scenes and debugging simple algorithms.  She was a great help in class too as she shared her wisdom with her friends.  Fantastic Ruby, I’m so proud of you.

Barney was the Christian Value winner this week for creativity and thoughtfulness.  He has made cakes and chocolate for his Y2 teachers and made a huge effort to create some drawings of Miss Swann’s dog, Olly, along with a lovely uplifting message and sent it via the post.  It was a lovely surprise to find in the school mail box!   Barney certainly knows how to keep spirits high during tough times.  I’m very proud of you Barney, well done!
